Review Criteria and Funding
Process

Funding decisions

The Learning Enhancement Grants Committee will recommend for funding those proposals that could have the greatest influence on the learning environment at Virginia Tech.  Specifically, CEUT will give higher priority to proposals that meet the following criteria:

  • Need – A significant instructional need must be identified in the proposal.
  • Influence on Student Learning – Successful proposals will identify specific ways in which the project will directly influence student learning.  It is expected that proposal authors will consider current knowledge/research on student learning in developing proposals.
  • Appropriateness/Feasibility – Projects should represent an appropriate response to the need identified and should be feasible within the project timeframe and available resources.
  • Impact – The probable impact of this project on the overall instructional program, including numbers of students served, should be explained.
  • Evaluation – Successful proposals will include an evaluation plan that explains how the project’s effectiveness will be assessed.  Please note that this component has received increasing attention in recent years, and often marks the difference between more and less successful proposals.

Notification

Mini-Grants.  Funding decisions and notification will normally occur within two weeks of
          submission.

All other grants.  Notification of awards will be made within one month of the grants           deadline.

Funds transfers

All funds transactions related to awarded grants will be handled by Geraldine Hollandsworth (gholland@vt.edu or 231-995).  Funds will be transferred to the departments of grant recipients.  Those departments are then responsible for any personnel or funds handling procedures.  Please be aware that CEUT will not be responsible for carryover of project funds from one fiscal year to the next.

Reports

CEUT requests that grant recipients provide a brief report of project activities and outcomes in the semester following the conclusion of the project.  This report should be forwarded to CEUT in the form of a two-page narrative and may include any attachments authors want to share.  Also, CEUT may occasionally request that faculty members share their project activities in the context of CEUT’s ongoing program that includes workshops, seminars, conversation series, and the like.
