The mission of the Center for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching (CEUT) at Virginia Tech is to reinforce the importance of teaching excellence as a fundamental responsibility of a land-grant university. The Center provides focus, visibility, recognition and active support for the teaching mission, and gives leadership to the development of a campus climate where teaching excellence flourishes.
CEUT serves both symbolic and functional purposes in pursuing its mission. Symbolically, the physical presence of the Center and the visibility of its personnel and programs send a strong message about the importance of teaching and learning at Virginia Tech. Functionally, the Center provides rich opportunities for faculty and graduate students to learn about teaching, engage in reflective dialogue about teaching and learning, and access resources to enhance courses and programs.
CEUT also serves an advocacy role within the university, working with various constituencies to ensure that all systems, including the physical environment itself, are supportive of the university’s highest aspirations with respect to teaching, learning, and student development. |
