Terry Wildman, Ph. D., Director, and Professor of Educational Psychology,
Department of Teaching and Learning

Terry Wildman has been a faculty member at Virginia Tech since 1976, coming here directly from his doctoral work in educational psychology at Florida State University. He has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in educational psychology, and graduate courses in cognition, educational research, and college teaching. His scholarship has focused on applications of learning theory to instruction, learning-to-teach processes in K-12 and higher education settings, and the development of mentoring programs for beginning teachers. He has served as CEUT director since 1995.

Nancy Polk, Ed.D., Assistant Director

Nancy Polk recently moved to Blacksburg to join the CEUT staff. She has a 22 year history with North Carolina State University - a period in which she worked on student and faculty support in distance education, academic policy and advising matters in the Provost's Office, and curricular and faculty development initiatives for NCSU and its College of Physical and Mathematical Sciences. Nancy departed NCSU to pursue doctoral studies in Higher Education Leadership at Florida State University. Her research there contributed to the development of the new Post Master's Certificate Program in Institutional Research at five major research universities. It also led to her teaching fellowship at The University of Georgia to teach graduate-level courses in counseling and program planning and assessment. Nancy is very excited to be here and looks forward to pursuing her interests in faculty development, curricular design, critical thinking, and assessment. She also looks forward to becoming an integral part of the Virginia Tech and Blacksburg communities.

Monique Dufour, Coordinator, University Writing Program

A member of the CEUT since 2003, Monique is dedicated to supporting faculty members in their efforts to help students grow as thinkers and writers. As Coordinator of the University Writing Program, she offers workshops and consultations about communication and writing, as well as other teaching and learning issues. She is especially interested in creating educational environments in which students learn how to continue to inquire and write once their courses are over. Monique collaborates with faculty as well as residential life and student affairs personnel to cultivate a first-year community of readers engaged in extra-curricular intellectual and creative life.

Prior to her work at CEUT, Monique was a Mellon Fellow at Duke University's Center for Teaching, Learning and Writing. She is currently editing a book of essays about the process of inquiry, and is also authoring a book about creativity and everyday life.

Geraldine Hollandsworth , Office Manager

Geraldine Hollandsworth joined CEUT in December 2006 where she serves as Administrative Assistant and Office Manager for the director and other CEUT personnel. During her five years at Virginia Tech she has worked in the Purchasing Department, the Department of Communication, and in the Development and Public Relations office at the VMRCVM. She enjoys working with the faculty, staff and students here at Virginia Tech.

Geraldine lives in Christiansburg with her husband Ronald and their two daughters, Stephanie and Hilary, along with their two dogs Sandy and Brook.

Pupung Purnawarman, Web Master, Information Technologist

Pupung Purnawarman recently joined CEUT in Fall 2006. He is a graduate assistant and works in the team as a web master and information technologist. He earned a B.A. in English Education from Indonesia University of Education and taught there for seven years. He obtained a Master’s degree in Instructional Technology from Southern Illinois University Carbondale under the Fulbright scholarship in 2004. He is pursuing his Ph.D. in Instructional Design and Technology at Virginia Tech. His research interests are on Distance Learning, Learning and Course Management System, Youth Leadership, and Teaching English as a Second or Foreign Language. Prior to joining CEUT, he served as a GA in Instructional Technology Computer Lab and Information Technology Service Unit Housecalls at Virginia Tech. He is very excited to be a part of CEUT.

Ellen Yama, Office Assistant

Ellen Yama is a freshman in the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech. She is a Business Management major. She is planning on going into Human Resources. She was born in Winchester, VA but she has lived in Hunterdon County, New Jersey for the past 14 years. She has two older sisters and one identical twin sister. She enjoys working out, playing volleyball, reading and running.

Ryan Holcombe, Office Assistant

Ryan Holcombe is a first time entering freshman at Virginia Tech majoring in Aerospace Engineering. His hometown is a small rural town in Connecticut called Tolland where he attended the local high school. He enjoys playing sports, particularly golf, and spending time outdoors. He also enjoys playing the guitar during while he is not spending his whole life absorbed in his studies.

Lulit Affin, Office Assistant

Lulit is in Biology major and she plans to go to medical school after graduation. She was born and raised in Addis Abeba, Ethiopia. She has been living in Alexandria, VA for the last five years. She enjoys painting and appreciates the world through art. The youngest child in the family, she has two brothers and a sister who also graduated from Virginia Tech.
Upon completing her study, she plans to be involved in cancer research and work for
nonprofit organiations and charity hospitals.
In God’s will, she also wants to travel places in Africa in the future and educate women and children who are in need.
